In what could only be described as a gorgeous day for football, Mars Hill wrapped up the home portion of their season on Saturday, November 1 at Meares Stadium in Mars Hill, NC. Mars Hill QB Ricky Spradling, former Avery Viking, is completing a successful senior season at the helm of a 6-4, 3-3 squad thus far this season.

Spradling will wrap his career on Saturday as the Mars Hill Lions will travel to Wingate to close their 2008 campaign. Coming into the season Ricky’s career stats were 153 for 319 passing for 2196 yards 12 TD and 15 interceptions, as well as carrying the ball 130 times for 103 yards.

With one game remaining in this the 2008 season, Ricky has put up great numbers completing 103 of 205 passes for 1764 yards, 15 TD and 9 interceptions, while putting up 120 yards on 65 carries.

Saturday against Tusculum Spradling put up a 12 for 27, 157 yard effort with 2 TD and one interception. Spradling’s home career came to an end in heartbreaking fashion as the Lions came up on the losing end of a 33-28 effort, but according to Spradling, “its been a great ride, and I’m glad I got the opportunity.” Ricky stated that he has one more game left, and he’s going to make it count.

Zach Johnson also led the team in tackles again on Saturday with 7 tackles (2 for loss, and 1 sack). Johnson is a red-shirt Sophomore, and former Viking Trevor Shields is also at Mars Hill, red-shirting this season as a freshman. Congrats on a great 4 years Ricky!
